Oskar Schuster Via Ferrata Plattkofel
Historic via ferrata with pure Dolomites feeling
The Plattkofel is a very varied mountain. On the south side, it is climbed via the hiking trail. This is quite flat and does not pose any particular difficulties. On the north side, however, the walls drop vertically down to the Plattkofel cirque.
As early as 1895, Oskar Schuster, one of the climbing pioneers of the Dolomites, climbed the Plattkofel via the north side along a daring route. Today, this route has been made safer with steel cables and ladders in the most difficult sections, thus offering an unforgettable climbing experience of medium difficulty.
Your special climbing day begins on the Sellajoch. Here we park the car and take the historic gondola lift to the Toni Demetz hut up to the Sasso Lungo pass. From here we start our tour, via the Sasso Lungo hut, to the start of the Oskar Schuster via ferrata.
During the climb you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Plattkofel cirque. Pure Dolomites feeling.
Your local mountain guide from South Tyrol will show you the correct climbing and safety technique on the via ferrata. In addition, your mountain guide will secure you with an additional rope in the more difficult sections.
The descent takes place via the normal route on the south side.
You return to the start of the tour on the Sellajoch via the Plattkofelhütte and the Friedrich-August Weg.

We had a great week on the ice climbing advanced course! Florian always gave us help when we needed it and gave us the knowledge we needed to be able to climb on ice independently. I can definitely recommend him as a mountain guide.
